Philly’s famous World Cafe radio program is celebrating 25 years on air, and the passing of the torch from local legend and host, David Dye to new host Talia Schlanger. To observe this landmark in WXPN’s history, World Cafe chose J2 to create a new identity for the radio show.
World Cafe has been introducing listeners to an eclectic blend of contemporary sounds from both legendary and up-and-coming artists through exclusive interviews, performances, and special features. It’s recorded and produced right here in our backyard at Philadelphia’s NPR affiliate WXPN.
The New Mark
The concentric circles in the new logo symbolize the influence of World Cafe radiating out across the world, while the fluctuating heights of the letters represent a megaphone, projecting the excitement of discovering new music. The mark’s circular shape and softer edges make the logo feel approachable and warm, mirroring the tone of the show, while the vibrant color brings a youthful energy to the brand. The logo’s circular shape also harkens back to the original logo’s coffee stain circle (pictured above in the header image), representing the diverse and inclusive nature of the program.
Tune into World Cafe on 88.5FM Monday through Friday at 2pm or subscribe to the podcast World Cafe Words and Music from WXPN.
